Ronaldo Fined and Suspended for Gesture After Al-Nassr Victory

Cristiano Ronaldo will miss Al-Nassr’s next league game against Al-Hazm. He got a one-match ban from the Saudi football authorities.

Ronaldo made an offensive gesture towards fans after Al-Nassr’s 3-2 win over Al-Shabab. Reports say he cupped his ear and did something provocative. This was because the fans were chanting “Messi” at him during the match.

TV missed it, but fan-recorded videos drew the authorities’ notice.

Ronaldo was also fined 10,000 Saudi Riyals (£2,100) by the authorities. Al-Nassr got a fined 20,000 SAR for actions that provoked or incited fans, breaching the rules.

But the huge fine won’t really affect Ronaldo. His yearly salary is over £170 million.

Local reports say Ronaldo tried to explain his actions. He said in a statement: “I respect all clubs. The joy after the shot expresses strength and victory, and it is not shameful. We are used to it in Europe.”

However, the authorities didn’t accept his reason. They gave Ronaldo a one-match ban. He will miss the upcoming game against Al-Hazm.
