Tactical Breakdown

Manchester United finally broke their Anfield curse after nearly 10 years. United beat Liverpool 2–1 in a match full of emotion, grit, and tactical brilliance. Amorim’s team looked fearless, absorbing pressure and striking when it mattered.
United’s opener came in just the first minute — Bryan Mbeumo finishing off a swift move after Amad Diallo tore down the flank. Anfield was stunned and as silent as a library. Amorim’s men stayed calm, compact, and fully committed to their plan.
Liverpool dominated the ball, pushing forward with intensity, but Amorim had prepared a low block that closed off the central channels. Casemiro shielded the defense. Amorim’s choice to play Amad as a wing-back was bold, yet it added speed in transitions — every counter carried threat.Dalot dropped a poor performance throughout the game, losing the ball multiple times in crucial positions.
As the second half unfolded, Liverpool’s pressure grew. Cody Gakpo, their brightest spark, hit the post twice before finally equalizing with a tap-in. Anfield erupted with joy, but not for long; red shirts swarmed forward. Amorim didn’t panic. He waited, watched, then made his move. He ordered Maguire to attack, a player many thought forgotten, for one last push.
After a quick corner from Bruno to Mbeumo, the shot got blocked. Mbeumo passed back to Bruno, and he swung in a deep cross; Maguire rose highest, towering above Konaté, and guided the ball into the far corner. Silence fell, then United erupted in joy. It was poetic — Maguire, often criticized, delivering victory in seconds.
Tactically, Amorim’s plan was masterful. His team sat deep yet looked composed, countering in controlled phases. He turned a defensive setup into a strategic weapon. Liverpool’s overloads left space, and United’s discipline punished every mistake.
When it ended, Amorim smiled quietly. His players hugged, exhausted. Maguire raised his fist to the away fans. No chaos, no luck — just tactical clarity, heart, and belief stitched together into a perfect, historic night.
Standout Performers
Matheus Cunha might not get the plaudits he deserves, so let’s start it for him.
He covered every blade of grass, knitted our forward play together and sacrificed his own clear sights of goal to benefit the team.
We don’t win without him.
A brilliant performance. 🙌 pic.twitter.com/2tppYs9LXb

Mbeumo- A wonderful goal in just 2 minutes into the match. Flawless throughout the match, created a lot of chances. Very good chemistry with Cunha and Sesk, passes were accurate also contributed defensively when needed to track back.
- Matheus Cunha-The orchestrator and playmaker for United. Dribbled successfully quite a few times and looked unstoppable with the ball. Press resistant and won second balls and did a lot of interceptions too.
