Barcelona’s Injury Crisis Deepens as Joan Garcia and Raphinha Sidelined Ahead of Crucial UCL Clash

FC Barcelona’s strong start to the season has been overshadowed by injuries, with Joan Garcia and Raphinha the latest to be sidelined just days before the Champions League showdown against Paris Saint-Germain on October 1.

Barcelona's Injury Crisis

Joan Garcia is sidelined with a knee injury

Joan Garcia, the 23-year-old goalkeeper, suffered an internal meniscus tear in his left knee during the last minutes of the game last night against Real Oviedo. The club confirmed he will undergo arthroscopic surgery, but his recovery is expected to take 4–6 weeks. This means Garcia will miss key fixtures, including league games against Real Sociedad and Sevilla, the PSG clash, and possibly the much-anticipated El Clásico against Real Madrid in November.

Raphinha is out with a thigh strain injury

Raphinha also picked up a right thigh muscle strain in last night’s victory over Real Oviedo. What was initially thought to be a precautionary substitution turned into a serious setback after scans revealed the extent of the injury. He will be out for around three weeks, ruling him out of the PSG match as well as Brazil’s upcoming friendlies.

Both absences are a major blow for Hansi Flick, who is already navigating a long injury list. Veteran goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny is expected to fill in for Garcia, while the returning Lamine Yamal will shoulder the attacking burden in Raphinha’s absence.

With crucial games ahead, Barcelona will need its squad depth and resilience more than ever to stay competitive on all fronts.
