Why is KBFC Manjapada one of the Best fan groups in India

The 2023 AFC Asian Cup may not have ended on a high note for the Indian national team, but amidst the disappointment, a beacon of unwavering support shone brightly – the KBFC Manjapada.

This passionate fan group, known as the “Yellow Army,” traveled tirelessly to cheer on the Blue Tigers in all their group stage matches, showcasing the immense dedication of Indian football fans.

This article delves deeper into the history, culture, and impact of Manjapada, a true embodiment of passionate fan culture in Indian football.

A Deep Dive into Manjapada, the Heartbeat of Kerala Blasters

The Begining

Manjapada, meaning “Yellow Army” in Malayalam, was born in 2014 on Facebook, started by just three Kerala Blasters (KBFC) fans. What began as a virtual space quickly blossomed into a thriving community connecting with fellow fans through social media groups. By 2016, Manjapada expanded its reach beyond Facebook, establishing WhatsApp groups that initially attracted around 50 members.

Driven by unwavering passion, the group grew exponentially. Today, Manjapada boasts branches in all 14 districts of Kerala, and 12 other Indian states, and even has members from 64 countries around the globe. Notably, they established a dedicated women’s branch in 2016, actively promoting football participation among women and fostering a diverse and inclusive fan community.

Fueling the Flames of Yellow Passion

Since the inception of the Indian Super League (ISL), Kerala Blasters have enjoyed some of the highest average attendances in the league, largely attributed to Manjapada’s unwavering enthusiasm.

They actively organize fan engagement activities, including welcoming the team at airports and organizing roadshows before crucial away matches.

Interestingly, the east stand of KBFC’s home ground, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, has earned the nickname “Manjapada Stand” due to the group’s dedicated presence during home games.

Beyond the Stands: A Legacy of Unity and Support

Manjapada’s dedication extends beyond cheering from the stands. They actively promote positive fan culture by organizing post-match stadium cleaning initiatives since 2017.

In 2020, they released a musical album titled “Padayani,” keeping the spirits high by showing empty stands and struggles of the pandemic to motivate the Kerala Blasters.

Additionally, Manjapada has been recognized for its contributions, receiving the “Fan Club of the Year” award from the Indian Sports Honors twice, in 2017 and 2019.

A Symphony of Chants, Tifos, and Unshakeable Support

Manjapada creates an electrifying atmosphere during matches, synchronizing chants, songs, and the iconic “Mexican wave” to support their beloved team.

Their dedication extends beyond KBFC, as seen in their unwavering support for the Indian national team during the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

Furthermore, Manjapada pushes the boundaries of fan engagement through captivating “Tifos.” These large choreographed displays are a visual treat, often carrying powerful messages like the one displayed during the 2018-19 ISL season opener, a tribute to the fishermen who saved lives during the 2018 Kerala floods.

Notably, their 2022 Southern Derby Tifo against Bengaluru FC holds the record for the biggest Tifo in Asian and Indian football history, showcasing their commitment to pushing the boundaries of fan expression.

A Force of Inspiration and a Role Model

Manjapada’s dedication serves as a beacon of inspiration for other fan groups in India. Their relentless support, innovative engagement initiatives, and unwavering loyalty have significantly contributed to elevating the fan culture in Indian football.

Through their tireless efforts, Manjapada aptly embodies the spirit of the “12th Man,” proving that passionate fan support can truly be a game-changer, both on and off the field.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Manjapada’s unwavering passion and dedication have not only propelled them to become a model for fan culture in India but also served as a beacon of hope during the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

Their story serves as an inspiration, demonstrating the transformative power of fan support in shaping the future of Indian football.

Perhaps it would not be wrong to say that Manjapada is one of the best fan clubs in Indian Football.
