Is Manchester City Smelling 3 Trophies Again

Manchester City seems to have found its feet after a below-average season last time around, and everyone has started to take notice again. They haven’t hit the ground running, but are right behind Arsenal and look like their usual self in the Champions League as well.

And I can see it, I can feel it, Pep’s cooking, because this smells a lot like Treble.

Why Manchester City might win it all again this year

Manchester City might winEveryone knows Manchester City didn’t have a great season last time around by their lofty standards; their Premier League winning streak came to an end as they finished third, and people thought their domination might be coming to an end.

But people have a catfish memory, because the guy at the helm of Manchester City has never gone 2 seasons in a row without winning a league title, which speaks volumes about his greatness. Pep had a task at hand of rebuilding his Manchester City side again, and while the rebuild might not be complete yet, he seems to have found a way to work again.

City brought in the likes of Omar Marmoush, Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, and the big buy Gianluigi Donnarumma. To add to the new arrivals, 2 stars who helped City dominate in the Treble-winning season, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden, have returned to their best.

Erling Haaland is scoring goals for fun, I mean literally, after every week there’s a headline about him either scoring a brace or a hat-trick, he is on course to break his own record for most goals in a Premier League season, which he set during Manchester City’s treble-winning season.

Haaland has 30 Goals already (1)Haaland has 30 Goals already this season in all competitions, including 19 for Manchester City, which many people are seeing as a flaw, saying Erling Haaland is carrying Manchester City on their back, and factually, they are right, but I say if you have a player of Erling Haaland’s calibre who can literally score 60 goals in a season, it the coach’s job to make sure he builds a team around him to get the maximum out of him.

Pep Guardiola is doing exactly that. He did that in Haaland’s debut season, and it helped us win our very first UEFA Champions League and a treble, and I don’t mind Erling Haaland carrying us to another Champions League and a treble.

Pep has again evolved his system. Phil Foden no longer plays as a second striker as he often did; Pep employs him in a deeper role in the midfield, which helps City with quick transition, and it also allows players like Rayan Cherki to excel in their preferred position.

Now, Manchester City’s biggest headache last season was their Defence. Rodri’s injury completely destabilised City’s defensive stability, and City couldn’t find a fix for that the whole season. But things look much better now, with Reijnders and Nico in the midfield, the absence of Rodri doesn’t affect that much.

Gvardiol and Diaz have been solid at the back, and we have a Goalkeeper version of Erling Haaland in the form of Donnarumma, the guy literally can save anything and everything.

Add all of this up, and Manchester City starts looking like a well-oiled machine. And I feel that the best is yet to come, because historically this is the phase where Manchester City becomes ruthless, after the November International break.

If Manchester City start chasing those titles down like they usually do, who knows, maybe Citizens will be celebrating a lot of silverware come the end of the season.

I read about football and turn it into stories—sometimes funny, sometimes emotional, but always real. For me, football has never been about formations or stats. It’s about the memories, the chaos, and those moments fans never forget. The kind of things you still talk about with your friends long after the final whistle. That’s what I try to capture here.
